FringeNext Applications Now Open
Applications for FringeNext are now open and will be accepted until April 30. The IndyFringe building has been designated FringeNext for the 2009 festival. The building will be a place for young artists to grow through the inspiration of the global fringe performing artist movement. FringeNext will become a larger part of the overall festival with the number of performing groups increased to 15 and the number of shows to 45 over ten days.
FringeNext donor, Rhonda Fox Waltz, believes the move to the IndyFringe building will allow FringeNext to really flourish.
“It is important to give teens an outlet to create their own journey. Artistic venues provide a means to more safely test and question the norms with an end product that builds confidence, possibility and camaraderie despite the pressures to conform,” she said.
FringeNext is open to college groups for their first year, schools, community groups and individuals. Entries are accepted on a first come-first served basis.

Open Call for Street Performers
On March 7, 2009, the IndyFringe building will play host to an array of street performers practicing the “art of busking.”
Busking is the art of performing in public places to receive donations of money. The performance is often musical but can be juggling, comedy, magic,
dance, mine and painting.
Professional buskers make a living by performing on the streets and are a common sight in large international cities like Paris, Rome, London, New York and San Francisco.
IndyFringe is looking for street talent for the 2009 IndyFringe Festival. Help bring Mass Ave alive during the month of August. For more information call 317-522-8099.

REFRIED FRINGE: A RADICAL MARCHING BAND. Are you a former bando, show choir or theatre kid? Can you rock out on a kazoo? Do you like performing just for the fun of it? Is there a little rebellion in you?
IndyFringe is launching a radical marching band, inspired by Rude Mechanical Orchestra’s visit to our festival last year. A radical marching band is all about breaking the rules of band (no shakos here!), playing ridiculously fun and crazy tunes, and causing a public ruckus.
Our radical marching band will be a low-time-commitment group that will lead our Opening Night parade at the festival in August. You definitely want to be a part of that party. Plus, it’s a great way to perform in a fun, no-pressure atmosphere, and meet other artsy, hip, nerdy, creative, random, culture-lovin’ rebels. We are looking for musicians of every assortment and level of talent as well as people who like to dance like fools, wave things in the air and create something exciting to look at (aka an unconventional dance line/color guard/visual performance hybrid).
If interested, please go to http://lb.wufoo.com/forms/refried-fringe-a-radical-marching-band/, fill out the form, and join us at our Informational Meeting on July 13.
