“One of the most commanding solo shows around today.” -Jewish Journal
“A rare solo performance shows that deftly balances humor, gravitas, pathos, education, and energy into a soul-baring beautiful performance expertly delivered.” – Nerd of Color
“Ruthlessly honest, in I’m Too Fat For This Show, Huffman exposes literally her innermost core with biting and intelligent humour.” -Gia on the Move
In this shockingly hilarious and brutally honest solo performance, actor/writer Kate Huffman (Fresh Off the Boat) guides us through two decades of living with an OCD-instilled eating disorder that requires her to live by a strict set of rules and rituals rooted in numbers and eternal body hatred. Charm, wit, and self-deprecation entice the audience through the journey of a young girl who stumbles upon a life-long, nihilistic imaginary friend. Masterfully guided by director, Scout Durwood (Mary + Jane), Huffman utilizes biting precision and enchanting levity with every character she presents along her embattled journey.
I’M TOO FAT FOR THIS SHOW takes one woman’s struggle and turns it into a universal comedy that not only connects us to our shared common core of human suffering but enlightens us with the science behind developmental brain chemistry. It presents an opportunity for all people with obsessions, neuroticism, or overwhelmingly negative self-talk to laugh at themselves.
“Amazing and powerful! Heroic is for sure a word that fits.”
“It makes me feel less alone in the constant journey to want to be happy and feel good in my own skin.”
