An Improvised Life: Tales of an Improv Guru tells the strange life story of Tom Booker, who went from being an underground theater star in Chicago in 1986, to becoming a 30-second superstar in Los Angeles in the 90s, to a becoming a Coffee Shop Cowboy in Austin, Texas in 2007.
What happens in a time of historical ferment when you acknowledge the moral roots and lived experiences that inform your politics, left and right? We enter the stage with the daily news and go from there for three performances of high-wire improvisation and emotionally honest storytelling about then and now.
A mysterious gift of foresight is imposed on Eleanor. The secret to unraveling its mystery, Eleanor realizes, is embedded in her mother’s newfound visions of the future. Now, she must decipher what is truth and what is merely imagination in her mother’s fractured dreams and hallucinations. But Eleanor quickly recognizes that there is no room for miscalculations for if she gets it wrong, she will soon die a dreadfully agonizing death.
Established in 2011, OnxyFest is striving to become, in the words of the late playwright, August Wilson, a festival that “informs its viewers of the human condition and its power to heal.” OnyxFest is determined to be the vehicle to promote and expose avid theatre goers to the voices and talent of new and emerging African American playwrights.

Truth— The One Man Show is the culmination of 152 years of truth coming from the souls of four individuals. Silas Christian, a runaway slave; Harley Wallace, a Klu Klux Klan member; Malik Muhammad, a Civil Rights Activist and Jackson Thomas, a misguided young man are all fighting for family.
The Quilting is an autobiographical play that depicts the abuse the playwright’s mother endured and how her strength had the ability to heal. The importance of this piece is that it shows the rippling effects of abuse and shows that in spite of the terror of abuse there is still the possibility of hope, self-realization, and forgiveness.
