Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival.

VisualFringe 2009, August 7 to August 30

About the Visual Fringe
VisualFringe is the nonperformance counterpart to the Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival. What you will find is an eclectic mix of established and undiscovered artists given the opportunity to show their work. Many of these artists may have never exhibited in a public setting prior to participating in VisualFringe.

We hope that the proximity of the visual and performing arts will create a synergetic effect that will enhance the energy and excitement of the festival with the two forms feeding off one another. The VisualFringe is nonjuried and opens August 7, 2009, in conjunction with the IDADA First Friday walk.

About Jenny Elkins, Curator, VisualFringe

"I woke one morning and discovered much to my chagrin that I had failed to attend art school. I reconciled this sorry state of affairs by enrolling in the Herron School of Art. Four years and thousands of dollars later, I was making papiermâché cats by the thousands and realized that I was a professional artist with a wholesale business making papiermâché cats. Thanks to the cats, I was able to fulfill a goal to open a retail store on Mass Ave (the home of the Fringe Festival), where I sold papier-mâché cats (and other little goodies). I had arrived!

"I was on PBS, had a spread in the paper, on covers of catalogs etc. Many different forms of art were created during those years. But, one day I had my fill of papier-mâché and moved on to my current work which is mixed media college using old photos of women from the 1800s and a witty sense of humor. My work has been shown in local galleries throughout Indianapolis and at art fairs throughout the Midwest.”
